1995 gegründet spielten sie als DIES IRAE noch Blackmetal/Pagen und brachten 1998 ein in Eigenregie produziertes Album "Warganism" auf den Markt. Seitdem hat sich - zwar nicht im Line-up - doch einiges sonst geändert: Die Haare sind ab, die Gothic-Mäntel verschwunden und der Sound ein anderer. Die Umbenennung in WARGANISM führt die fünf Rumänen nun musikalisch in die Gefilde des eher melodisch angehauchten Heavy Metal, mit einer gehörigen Portion Pagan, Rock aber auch Gothic-Einflüssen.

Anfang diesen Jahres brachten die Herren dann ihr erstes Album in voller Länge heraus und "Centipede" hat nichts mehr mit dem ursprünglichen Sound von "Warganism" gemein. Statt des verschwommenen Gitarrenbreis erwarten den Hörer schwere Riffs im Midtempo mit durchaus abwechslungsreichen Spielereien. Daneben findet sich die ein oder andere wunderschön und durch die Unterlegung mit dem Synthesizer fast sphärisch anmutende, gezupfte Passage. Auch die durchgängig eindreschende Doublebass ist verschwunden; an Stelle dieser sind flexible Rhythmen getreten, eingesetzt wird sie nur noch an passenden Passagen zur Untermalung. Der Bass erzeugt durchaus eine angenehm düstere Hintergrundatmosphäre, worin man hier den einzigen Einfluss aus früheren Zeiten erkennen kann. Die kraftvollen, wenn auch eher hoch angesiedelten Growls verhindern, dass die Kälte in den Songs zu sehr Überhand nimmt, sodass ein eher nachdenklicher Sound entsteht. Dieser ist aber keinesfalls deprimierend oder etwa lahm - nach dem Eingangstrack 'The Strangest Thing' finden sich von 'Stay' bis 'To Forget' Songs, in denen gebängt und gezuckt werden darf. Nicht auf das Album hätten das sehr modern-elektronisch angehauchte 'Shadow Boxing' und der noch grauseligere Remix gemusst.

Fazit: WARGANISM stellen mit ihrer 180-Grad-Wandlung Können und Flexibilität unter Beweis. Auch wenn "Centipede" eher ein Werk ist, bei dem man erst mal zur Ruhe kommt, finden sich doch so einige Tracks, bei denen man sich richtig austoben kann. Der Sound ist so eigen, dass mir keine Vergleichsband einfällt, die passen mag. Mit 'Envy' findet sich im Übrigen noch eine wunderschöne Ballade mit sauberem Gesang auf der CD. Ich bin begeistert und auf das nächste Werk gespannt.

Avem o premiera. Prima trupa romaneasca la rubrica de "specialitati". Si pentru ca sunt previzibila, aceasta este Taine cu al sau nou produs, Live In Studio DVD /CD. Nu stiu cate produse de acest gen exista pe piata mondiala, imi imaginez ca mai sunt, dar cu siguranta, in micuta noastra lume a metalului romanesc, un asemenea produs nu mai exista. Iar asta este o afirmatie pe care o fac pentru a doua oara, daca ne gandim la A Decade of Metal, primul DVD de pe piata romaneasca de metal.

O sa-mi permit sa copiez detaliile tehnice asa cum le-am primit de la trupa. Materialul este inregistrat live multitrack si post mixat si produs atat in stereo cat si in surround, iar masterizarea a fost realizata in Statele Unite de catre Christian Mackensen. Imaginea a fost captata cu 4 camere video, iar DVD-ul ofera posibilitatea vizionarii din diferite unghiuri. Ca bonus avem un "behind the scenes" de cateva minute, cu si fara comentariile lui Ady si Andy.

DVD-ul este, intr-un fel, rezultatul unei dorinte imposibil de materializat, o transmisie in direct pe internet a unei repetitii. Din pacate conditiile tehnice si banda redusa de internet nu au permis broadcasting-ul live, asa ca Taine s-au reorientat pentru o inregistrare gazduita de Metalfan.TV . Calitatea materialului precum si reactiile primite i-au facut pe membrii trupei sa-si doreasca ca aceasta inregistrare sa ajunga si pe un suport fizic. Astfel s-a ajuns la lansarea, la un an si jumatate distanta in timp, a acestui digi-pack. Trebuie precizat ca produsul se prezinta foarte bine si ca, in afara de pack-urile Negura Bunget, este materialul care arata cel mai bine din punct de vedere al prezentarii din tot ce am vazut pe piata romaneasca.

Cum materialul de pe DVD este destul de static - de inteles, desigur, in fond cata varietate se poate cere de la o cantare "din prima" in studio? - am sa va las placerea vizionarii si am sa vorbesc mai mult de CD-ul audio, material care aproape ca poate fi privit ca mult-asteptatul "al doilea album Taine" dupa deja atat de indepartatul debut Cealalta Parte. De ce spun asta? Pentru ca CD-ul contine practic 5 piese care nu au mai aparut pe niciun material audio - Existence, Inger sau Demon, The Devil Inside, The Genius Way si Love and Hate. O alta trupa ar fi scos un EP cu ele si ar fi rezolvat temporar problema "albumului nou". Taine a preferat, insa, sa ofere si pieselor vechi calitatea pe care acestea n-au putut-o avea in conditiile din 1999, astfel incat CD-ul este completat si de Pierdut, Ce esti tu?, Psalm I si II, Vanity si Avoid the Pain. Fara a fi modificat vreun pic structura pieselor vechi, acestea suna, totusi, incomparabil mai bine decat primele lor variante. De altfel, este momentul sa precizez ca sunetul noului produs Taine este impecabil de la prima pana la ultima piesa, tehnica instrumentala a celor patru fiind incontestabil pusa in valoare de o masterizare superioara, care inca nu poate fi realizata pe plan local.

Piesele noi se detaseaza aproape total de influenta pregnanta Death pe care au avut-o compozitiile din 2002-2003 ( No Personality, Inger sau Demon), prezente de asemenea pe Live in Studio, imprumutand mai degraba elemente progressive pe care le puteam intui inca de la aparitia pieselor Invisible Absolute (care ramane, totusi, cea mai experimentala pana la aceasta data) si Existence. De fapt, in acest moment Taine este death-metal cam in aceeasi masura in care ar fi death metal Cynic. De altfel, sunt detectabile influente din aceasta directie, ca si din zona Opeth. Nu lipsesc nici lead-urile jazzy si masurile distonante a la Frederik Thordendal. O suma diversa de influente din care rezulta 3 momente excelente. The Genius Way, totusi, mi-a placut mai mult in versiunea exclusiv instrumentala. Nicio problema, exista The Devil Inside... si cred ca-mi retrag paranteza de dupa Invisible Absolute. Un pic cam dificila chiar si pentru un ascultator obisnuit de technical. Favorita mea de pe acest produs (in afara de Psalm, care inca ramane numarul 1) este Love and Hate. Piesa incepe cu un intro dintr-un film (cred) si se dezvolta intr-un ritm alert care ma duce cu gandul la Elements (Atheist). De remarcat si soloul de la final.
Ca si primul DVD, si Live in Studio se incheie cu celebra The Philosopher (Death). In afara de a spune ca piesa este interpretata 1 la 1, nu prea am ce sa spun. Poate pentru variatie as fi preferat un Crystal Mountain.

Deja "din off" mi se sufla ca am scris prea mult, asa ca in loc de concluzie voi spune doar atat: intrati pe www.taine.ro si achizionati acest produs. Din partea mea, 10/10.

Wilmar: I have never heard of the Romanian quintet Warganism, but that is going to change really fast! When their second full length ‘Centipede’ fell into my mailbox I was fairly obsessed with the artwork on the digipack, but since I write for Lords, I am quite hesitant in my enthusiasm. I was ready to be disappointed, but during the first time listening to this album, Warganism was convincing enough to prove me wrong.

These five guys weave metal with gothic and pour a death metal sauce over it all. But just calling it metal is selling the band too short. Here and there I hear parts of folk music, world music and in the arrangements there is quite a jazz influence. Sometimes Warganism has a little flaw in their music, like the second riff in ‘The Words’, that actually doesn’t come back that often, but it sounds a bit uninspired. No, you should listen to the marvellous beauty of ‘Stay’… What a beautiful composition that is. Guitarists that don’t play matching parts, eerie melodic, yet gothic sounding harmonies and then the brutal grunt from Rado Iordache over it. That this man can sing as well is audible in the ballad ‘Envy’ which has this hypnotizing guitar melody with a heavy bass underneath and this twin vocal line, just like it escaped from Lord Of The Rings, that kind of atmosphere.

The sound is reasonable, the drums could have been louder in the mix, and next time please use a condenser microphone for the vocal recordings, not a stage piece, because it’s quite audible. But who whines about sound when the music is beautiful? The greatest classics had a butt sound, and look at all those people who defend those albums. Fans of Edge Of Sanity might find this a great buy, but if you are into melancholic metal, Warganism is something you should lend your ears to.

I Taine sono una band death metal proveniente dalla Romania e, come recita la bio in mio possesso, probabilmente la miglior progressive death metal del loro paese.Nel pacchetto pervenutomi dalla band oltre al cd "Cealalta Parte" e alla bio vi ho trovato anche il promo di tre canzoni più bonus track del nuovo immininte full lenght.La release "Cealalta Parte" è un remaster dell'omonimo album uscito nel '99 presso la ProMusic Records, solo su cassetta ed esaurito dopo poco tempo.I nostri, quindi, hanno giustamente deciso di rimasterizzarlo e stamparlo su cd.

Come accennato, i Taine si definiscono prog death metal, il che non è del tutto errato: la band, la cui influenza per i Taine è stata più che determinante, è quella di Chuck Schuldiner del periodo d'oro Human - Symbolic.Si possono avvertire comunque altre influenze death dell'area di Tampa (e zone limitrofe) ad esempio in certe soluzioni tecniche a là Pestilence di Spheres, in realtà di vero prog death metal non ce n'è, è più un techno death misto a soluzioni thrash a là Cynic.

I Taine sono ragazzi che con gli strumenti ci sanno fare, anche se devo dire che questo "Cealalta Parte" è troppo ancorato a stilemi death metal americani.Vorrei, invece, spendere due parole in più per il secondo cd del pacchetto: il "Promo 2003", anticipazione di quello che sarà il secondo album ufficiale, autoprodotto.Questa demo è composta di tre brani originali più "The Philosopher", cover che andrà a far parte della compilation di prossima pubblicazione "Tribute To Death".Il cd parte subito esplosivo, finalmente si riesce a percepire una certa personalità ancora derivativa dei vari Death, Pestilence,Atheist e Cynic (sono cosciente di nominare gruppi altisonanti...ma questi Taine sono davvero bravi), pero' alcuni spunti sono del tutto personali.Davvero vincente la seconda traccia intitolata "Invisible Personality", un connubio perfetto tra i Meshuggah di Nothing e i "soliti" Pestilence di Spheres.Anche "No Personality" che, al contrario del nome, possiede una personalità, filtrata dal loro amore viscerale per i Death, davvero forte; in questa traccia i nostri osano, inventandosi uno stacco centrale degno di una prog rock band collaudata.

Che dire della bonus track, i Taine sono i figliocci dei Death, il vocalist rumeno è un ottimo Schuldiner - clone, la cover è pressocchè perfetta, manchevole, ovviamente, di quel pathos che rende uniche le bands originali.Davvero bravi questi Taine. Credo che la vendita dei loro cds avvenga solo attraverso il sito ufficiale.

WARGANISM hießen einst DIES IRAE. Jetzt allerdings nicht mehr, gibt es doch eine polnische Band mit gleichem Namen. Die Polen spielen beinharten Death Metal, doch was machen die Rumänen?

Sie spielen auch Death Metal, allerdings einen viel moderneren. Melodischer ist er auch noch und vor allem massenkompatibler, aber das muss ja nicht immer zwangsläufig ein negativer Kritikpunkt sein. Sänger Radu kann brüllen und auch klar singen. Beides gelingt ihm hervorragend, obwohl er für meinen Geschmack den cleanen Gesang komplett weglassen könnte. Die Songs gehen direkt in die Magengegend, besitzen genug Arschtritt und Groove um zum Mitnicken und mehr zu animieren.

Akustische Zwischensequenzen lockern die Stücke gekonnt auf und auch die oftmals eingesetzten Keyboardpassagen untermauern die Leichtfüßigkeit und Eingängigkeit der Lieder. Klingt doch eigentlich nach einem spitzenmäßigen Oberhammer, oder? Könnte man meinen, doch es gibt auch negative Seiten, über die es zu schreiben gilt.

WARGANISM machen grundsoliden melodischen Death Metal, mehr aber auch nicht. Es bleibt nicht wirklich etwas hängen, jedenfalls nicht genug, als dass ich mehr als sieben Punkte verteile. Diese sieben Punkte haben sie aber mit Fug und Recht verdient, denn unterhaltsam ist das Album auf alle Fälle, aber halt kein Fall von Dauerbrenner. Zu unspektakulär agieren WARGANISM um Kultstatus zu erreichen. Für eine Autofahrt zum Festival oder das Abgammeln am eigenen Zelt auf jeden Fall geeignet, vielleicht auch um Frauen zu beeindrucken, aber für mehr reicht es dann halt doch noch nicht.
